No Charges In Phony $200 Bill At Clothing Store
A Jeannette woman accused of passing a bogus $200 bill with President George W. Bush’s face on it will no longer face charges.
Deborah Trautwine, 51, has made full restitution, so Westmoreland County prosecutors have dropped charges of forgery and theft by deception, according to District Justice Mark Mansour’s office.
State police said the funny money was used to make a purchase at the Fashion Bug store in Hempfield Plaza on Aug. 22.
Though a $200 bill does not exist, a store clerk accepted it as payment and gave back more than $100 in real money as change, police said.
In addition to Bush’s face, the bill had several dead giveaways to its fakeness: serial number “DUBYA-4-U-2001;” President Ronald Reagan (news - web sites)’s “signature;” and “We Like Broccoli” on the back.>
Reading this made me wonder which was the sadder crime - someone trying to pass a $200 bill or a store clerk who would actually accept one and give back change for it.
