Christian Entertainment?

Byron asked a seemingly simple question over at a ticking time blog. I replied there, but this is something that I have actually been thinking about a great deal the last couple of weeks, so I am also posting my reply here. I’ll be interested to see if this draws any comments, see what you may be thinking about this.
…when did entertainment develop the ability to choose Christ? OK- probably a lame point, but how much money do believers in USAmerica spend on ‘Christian Entertainment’? And how many believers in 80% of the world are trying to somehow survive on less than what we are spending to be entertained?
Entertainment that glorifies God is not wrong in and of itself, but it seems that somehow, here in USAmerica, we have managed to ’sanctify’ it by calling it Christian and then elevated it to idolic proportions, throwing unholy amounts of money at it, and convince ourselves that it is ok because, after all, it’s Christian, right?
As for the poor starving people ‘over there’, well, if there is some pocet change left over after we’re done being entertained, we’ll donate that to one of those relief fund deals. Hey, for just pennies a day, they’ll get a whole bowl of rice every day. And our conscience is soothed because we’ve done our part.
