Grinchy Thief Steals Salvation Army Kettle

ALLENTOWN, Pa. — Police in Pennsylvania say a gunman stole a red Salvation Army kettle from a bell-ringing volunteer.

Jerlene Howard said she was standing near an Allentown grocery store when she was approached by a man wearing a scarf over his face. She said he had a gun and told her to keep quiet.

Police report the man got into a car, which was driven by an accomplice.

Howard said she didn’t know how much money was in the kettle, but said it was “kind of heavy.” In the past, she’s collected up to $135 a day.

The Salvation Army’s annual Red Kettle fund-raising drive helps buy food for the homeless and toys for poor children.

  1. How low must a person be in the barrel of life to steal from the SA? Not only does it tick me off, but I also feel sorry for the guy that stole the money. I don’t think I could live with myself knowing I took money that was meant to help the needy. It’s like taking the food right out of someone’s mouth.

  2. [...] The Salvation Army gets one of it’s kettles ripped off in Allentown PA. h/t to Steelerdirtfreak. [...]
