Shinnston, WV – The 16-year-old dirt Late Model racing sensation Josh ‘Kid Rocket’ Richards will find himself on the road during the 2005 racing season as the high school junior will compete on the World of Outlaws Late Model Series (WoO LMS) full time chasing after the coveted WoO LMS Rookie of the Year title. The personable young racer, who ran a substantial part of the 2004 season with the WoO LMS during his first year behind the wheel of the Mark Richards Racing Rocket Chassis #1, will also chase after the tour’s regular season points. In addition, ‘Kid Rocket’ has announced a new sponsor and announced the first handful of dates for the start of the 2005 racing season.

“I’m really looking forward to getting the season started,” commented Richards, who will enter only his second season as a dirt Late Model racer. “We spent some time last season on the road with the World of Outlaws and I felt I really learned a lot, plus the other drivers were all pretty friendly and helped me out a lot. Thanks to our sponsors we’ll be able to go on the road and hopefully contend and win the Rookie of the Year title.”

Richards, who will be in the Rocket Chassis ‘house car’, will have a new sponsor adorning the sleek #1 dirt Late Model. Ace Metal Works of Enterprise, WV have entered into a sponsorship and marketing arrangement with the team, Mark Richards Racing. Ace Metal Works, who deal in all types of metal fabrication, join returning sponsors Seubert Calf Ranches, MCB Motorsports and Hoosier Racing Tires.

“Our entire company is excited and anxious to see the new racing season start since we have become a part of Josh Richards effort to win the 2005 World of Outlaw Late Model Series Rookie of the Year title,” stated Norman McDougal, President of Ace Metal Works. “We look at this as not only an excellent marketing opportunity but also as a chance to be a part of a first-class, professional racing team as well as a part of a very promising and bright career for ‘Kid Rocket’.”

“I’m very grateful that Mr. McDougal and Ace Metal Works and associates have chosen to become a part of our team,” said Richards. “It’s exciting for us as well and we hope we can win the Rookie title for them and our other sponsors. Anyone in racing knows that it takes sponsors to make all this happen and we’ve been fortunate. In addition to Ace Metal Works and Mr. McDougal, I also have to thank Mike & Julie Seubert of Seubert Calf Ranches, the folks at MCB Motorsports and Hoosier Racing Tires. I’m ready to go racing!”

In that regard, Kid Rocket and team will be heading south to Florida and will enter several events. Due to obligations and commitments to his school work and responsibilities, Kid Rocket will only be able to attend three of the Lucas Oil NARA DirtCar Series events at East Bay Raceway on February 10-12 followed by two UMP events at Volusia County Speedway on February 16 & 18. Kid Rocket will also compete in the two season kickoff dates for the World of Outlaws Late Model Series on February 17 & 19 at Volusia County Speedway.

During the winter months Kid Rocket has kept busy with school work and helping prepare his cars and equipment for the 2005 season. He recently spent time at the Rocket Chassis School & Open House and also was a special guest at the 20th Annual Motorsports 2005 presented by Sunoco held at the Ft. Washington (PA) Expo Center during January 14-16. Kid Rocket’s car was on display during the weekend at the Area Auto Racing News booth and Josh was featured at special autograph sessions in addition to appearing live on the Dirt Nation radio program from the Motorsports 2005 presented by Sunoco show.

“I would like to thank Lenny Sammons and Joe Pratt and their staff at the Motorsports 2005 show,” stated Richards. “It was an amazing show and they really treated us special. We had fun out there and I was shocked at the turnout. I hope we can go back next year.”

In other news Kid Rocket was the subject of a feature article in the January 2005 issue of DIRT LATE MODEL magazine. Photos from Kid Rocket’s appearance at the Motorsports 2005 show are now posted on his website.
