Daytona 500 - follow-up

Well, all in all, I was fairly bored by the whole race today. Another 4 plus hours of restrictor-plate racing that all comes down to surviving the pinball game of the last 10 laps.
Which driver can react the fastest to his spotter telling him to “block high” or “block low” or which driver can cut his former buddy’s throat by jumping out of a draft with him and switching to a draft with someone else, leaving the first driver out in the cold.
Thanks, but I think I’ll still be sticking to my local short tracks.
Random thoughts on the coverage:
DW continues to be his own biggest fan. It’s amazing that his ego manages to squeeze into the broadcasting booth with two other announcers.
DJ’s gonna race the truck? There was a lot of noise and confusion where we were, plus during most commercial breaks, SMODA was conducting a type of Chinese Auction fund raiser - not exactly conducive to catching new commercials, but I did catch that one…not sure if there were any followups to it, but if not, I’m guessing at some point this season DJ is going to run in a Craftsman Truck Series Race?
Two drivers that were impressive over the course of the entire week - Kevin Lepage and Scott Riggs - good to see both of these guys do well; I really liked Riggs when he took over the Nestle Quik ride from Jeff Green in the Busch Series, here’s hoping this is his breakout year in Nextel Cup.
Speaking of Jeff Green, a very respectable 16th place finish for him, followed by his boss Kyle Petty in 17th. Maybe not great for Petty Enterprises, but certainly respectable.
And finally, a hat tip to local legend and Sharon Speedway owner Dave Blaney for his most respectable run and 14th place finish. I’m glad Childress gave him another chance after the less than ethical treatment last year, and it says here that Dave picks up his first Nextel Cup victory this season.
