Super Bowl Sunday….
Posted By Paul on February 4, 2007
So here it is; Super Bowl Sunday is here. Chicago vs. Indianapolis. Story lines abound; I touched on one of them a little over a week ago. The hype, of course, overbounds.
And so far, I haven’t said who I’m picking to win. Partly because I’m sure no one really cares who I pick to win. And partly because I’m just not into this year. After last year’s incredible run by the Steelers, climaxed by their dominating Super Bowl XL victory over Seattle, this year has been anti-climatic - and emphasized by a mediocre effort from the defending champs.
But that’s ok, because last year was so over the top that a return to reality seems almost mundane.
But it’s still the Super Bowl, the greatest sports spectacle in the United States. And for you guys who are married to to lovely women who just don’t get it, eat your hearts out! Because I’m blessed with a beautiful wife who will watch every minute of the game and love every single minute of it!
There’s a couple more thoughts and links I want to share about today’s game, but before I get to them - my pick…

Da Bears!
*Yep. picking the Chicago Bears to edge out the Indianapolis Colts by a score of 24-21. I know, it’s the NFL’s most overrated QB against possibly the league’s most inept QB, but in the end, I gotta believe that the Bears crushing defense will once again prevail, painting an emphatic “LOSER” all over Peyton’s legacy.
And besides, my brother lives in Chicago, and last year he joined me in rooting for the Steelers, so it’s only fair I join him in cheering on Da Bears!
* - unless I’m wrong, which I usually am in picking these sort of games…
Ok, now on to other stuff…

And finally, from Yahoo News, comes this ridiculous article that is both racist and demeaning to Black football fans, suggesting that they choose what team to cheer for based solely on the color of the coach’s skin.
This is so totally opposed to the dream that the late great Dr Martin Luther King, Jr. had, that it is embarrassing. His dream, his goal, was that any color skin, regardless of what it may be, would be of no consequence in life. Admittedly there is still much to do in this regard, but without doubt, great strides have been taken towards the ultimate fulfillment of Dr King’s dream.
Tony Dungy and Lovie Smith are great MEN, period. Imagine how totally racist and moronic it would be to suggest that caucasians choose who to cheer for based on the color of a coach’s skin. The cacophony of racist jeers and KKK insinuations would be overwhelming. And yet these folks use the exact same profiling, apparently, in choosing who is ‘acceptable’ to cheer for. How demeaning for all Americans, Black, White, or any color.
I know for a fact that the many great Black friends I have had throughout my life were quite able to decide what team to cheer for on their own, without being told that they needed to base that choice on color.
Join me today in cheering for the team of your choice, as they are led by two Great Men.
