Welcome An Old Hippie To The Blogosphere…   1 comment

Posted at 2:55 pm in Redneck Musings

My good friend Lawrence, a truly tie-dyed-in-the-wool hippie, has finally seen the light and started his own blog - Retro-Reinnasance

Lawrence is an excellent writer and almost always offers an interesting take on things. I’m looking forward to reading his musings.

Bubba and FloI’ve known Lawrence for over 30 years now, recently we were able to get together for the first time in many years to just hang out and have a good time. It was without a doubt the best weekend I’ve had in a LONG time. We’ve had some very interesting adventures together, from camping on the Blue Ridge Parkway to cruising Williamson Road and being passed by a disco roller queen (you had to be there). We attended our fair share of concerts together, were at parties with unexpected endings, and were charter members of Rowdy Ridge at the old Salem Municipal Stadium.

Someday, either Lawrence or I will actually explain what some of those things actually were. I might also eventually explain how Lawrence came to be known as Flo….

Anyways, go visit Lawrence and say howdy…

Lightning Photos - One Of These Days I’ve Got To Try This   no comments

Posted at 12:42 pm in Photography

Good photos of lightning are another type of photography that I’ve always really thought was pretty cool. I’ve never actually tried it, in part because I still don’t have the good tripod I need, and I don’t have a remote, yet, that will allow me to use the ‘bulb’ shutter release. Oh, and also because, knowing my usual luck, I know exactly where the lightning, that I was trying to take cool photos of, would end up striking…

Anyways. Darren, over at his Digital Photography School blog has posted 15 Spectacular Lightning Images. There is also a nice little how-to for shooting lightning in the forums.

Tip of the Day: Getting Stained Glass Right   no comments

I love taking photos of stained glass windows. When done correctly, the result is an amazing photograph. Unfortunately, I often seem to have trouble with the “correctly” part, which yields less than satisfying results.

Fortunately, I just came across this tip on the Pop Photo blog: PopPhoto Flash: Tip of the Day: Getting Stained Glass Right
