Photos from May 24 at Tri-City Speedway is now posted in our Tri-City gallery. Paul was once again unable to be at the track due to continuing health problems, so our photos this week are from Debbie and focus on off-track festivities, BRP Modified Tour Pre-Race activity, and all of the Victory Lane photos. Scott Whipple will have on track action photos in his Tri-City gallery.

Mercer Raceway Park ran a special Memorial Day race yesterday feturing the FASTRAK Northeast Touring Series (Frank Guidace, winner), Sprint Cars (Brian Ellenberger), STAR’s Championship Tour Mod Lites (Mikey Hay), Stock Cars (Rusty Martz), and Mini Stocks (Pete Blazczak).

The following photos are a small sampling from myself and my race photography partner Scott Whipple.

Trying Something Different With a Photo

For the most part, my racing photography is pretty straight-forward – shoot it, minor edit, and print it. Just present the cars as they are.

But last week I was reading the Cup Of Joe blog and Ron Storer’s blog and they were pointing out how texture can really add to a photo.

I thought I’d give it a try, just to see if I liked it and to see if it added anything to a racing photo.

Here is the original photo that I started with:

Using Photoshop Elements, I then converted it to a sepia tone, added a texture layer of old paper, set opacity to around 60%, merged down, duplicated the layer, and then set the blend mode to multiply and adjusted the opacity until I liked the result. I flattened the layers and the this is the result:

So what do you think? Does it work? Was it worth adding the texture and style?
