Tips To Getting Your WordPress Blog Some Traffic
I just stumbled across this article thanks to a tip from Alan, and it looks like it is a most excellent resource.
I know I’m going to go back and re-read it and make some adjustments on several of the WordPress sites I maintain.
ShareTechnorati Tags – do they work?
I added the [tag]SimpleTags plugin[/tag] a couple weeks ago; from the plugin description:
Allows you to create a list of [tag]Technorati tags[/tag] at the bottom of your post by providing a comma separated list of tags between the [tags] tags. You can use it with any blogging tool/method, not just when posting from [tag]WordPress [/tag]itself (doesn’t use custom fields). Supports multiple words within tags. Also allows in-post tagging of words by enclosing them in [tag] tags.
Ok, fine; I’d never messed with Technorati tags before, or any tags, really; I just don’t get the whole ‘tagging’ thing, but that seems to be what everyone is going with now, so I figured I’d give it a try.
Trouble is, it seems like my tags show up on Technorati.com only sporadically, at best.
My last post, about our NASCAR fantasy league, with the tags ‘NASCAR’ ‘fantasy league’ and ‘Byron’, appeared immediately, while the post I made a couple days ago about my brother being named Athlet of the Year for his powerlifting never appeard at Technorati.
At best, it seems that maybe 1 in 5 posts that I tag are actually collected by Technorati.
Has anyone else noticed anything similar? And if so, first, is there any way to improve that ratio, and second, if this is standard, what is the value or point of tagging?
I’ll really appreciate any feedback on this. If this is something I can fix, I’d sure like to do so. And I’d at least like to get a better perspective on the whole tagging concept.
